Pathways

A bright path awaits, and it’s just outside your door.

Prince’s Island Estates’ central location makes it ideal to access this extensive pathway system. Whether you choose to run, walk, e-scooter, or bike, living in Prince’s Island Estates will be sure to accommodate both professionals and active outdoor enthusiasts alike.

The Bow River pathway system provides an important contribution to the economic viability of Calgary’s downtown core. The system facilitates thousands of commuters and residents on route to special events or a casual stroll along the Bow River.

It weaves as far north as the Bearspaw Dam, and South down to the Fish Creek Provincial Park.  The Bow is world renowned for fly fishing or try ‘floating the Bow’ to soak up summer.

Walk along the river to the Library or the Zoo, or just walk Fido steps from your door.

Did we mention ice cream vendors and street performers in the summer?

Eau Claire

The community of Eau Claire is located adjacent to the Downtown Commercial Core, bounded by Prince’s Island and the Bow River on the north and centre of 4th Avenue on the south, extending from the centre of 2nd Street SW to the centre of 9th Street SW.

It takes its name from the Eau Claire Lumber Company, which was established by Isaac Kendall Kerr in 1886. Kerr came to Calgary to build a sawmill for lumbermen interested in developing timber resources in the Bow Valley. A mix of riverside condominiums, shopping, restaurants, hotels, a large public plaza and urban parkland make Eau Claire one of Calgary’s most popular areas. Contained within Eau Claire is the city’s Festival District.

Eau Claire is experiencing exciting re-development with a new outdoor Plaza opening in 2025 for enhanced social gatherings, residential, commuter and retail business opportunities springing to life.

Peace Bridge

The Peace Bridge is a pedestrian bridge, designed by renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava that accommodates both pedestrians and cyclists crossing the Bow River in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The bridge opened in 2012, and quickly became an iconic Calgary landmark.

The bridge was built by The City of Calgary to connect the southern Bow River pathway and Downtown Calgary with the northern Bow River pathway and the community of Sunnyside. It connects our residents with boutique shopping and famous restaurants in Kensington, which also has a major grocery chain.

The Peace Bridge is conveniently located approximately 5 minutes west (by foot) from Prince’s Island Estates.

Prince’s Island Park

Prince’s Island Park is located in the central part of Downtown Calgary.  It is a beautiful urban park.  The park offers several picnic sites, playgrounds, pathways, hiking trails, large art sculptures, an amphitheatre, flower gardens, and The River Café.

This park is a great place to escape the downtown pace, you’ll see a lot of people enjoying lunch breaks. Several festivals and events are also held here each year.  Skate the Lagoon in the winter.  Take a Yoga class in the park in the summer.

In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuut’ina, the lyarhe Nakoda Nations, the Metis Nation (Region 3), and all the people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region.

Something For Every Season

Start the year off with Fireworks at Prince’s Island Park. Watch from your balcony or from our center courtyard.

Skate on the lagoon and warm up by the firepits located around Eau Claire. Have a post skate lunch at the many cafes, bars and restaurants that surround us here at PIE.

As Spring arrives, watch the trees at PIE come alive with white blossoms as they prepare for the summer ahead. Our North Gate is a favourite photo spot for people walking along the pathway. Runners and joggers also enjoy our central location and many people run the pathways year-round.

Rent an electric bike or scooter and check out all there is to see along the designated bike path. Wander over to Prince’s Island Park and welcome the new goslings.

Then wander over to Princes Island Park and welcome the new goslings.

May Long Weekend is the start to summer and the festival season in Calgary. Calgary Folkfest is only one of the summer festivals. You can attend or just listen from your balcony or patio.

The Calgary Folkfest and Expo Latino both happen in the park, and you can take your chair and experience it there or listen from your balcony.

As summer wains and the leaves start to turn Prince’s Island Park is a great spot to go for a walk.  If it’s an early stroll with the dog you may catch a beautiful sunrise.

As Christmas arrives, our courtyard is lit up with Christmas lights and our Holiday Reception is open to all residents of PIE.
